- item: Conference-Extended-AbstractUse of statistical software to construct 1-mr control charts for non normal data(2014-01-16) Dhanushika, MP; Banneheka, BMSG; Herath, K; Siriwardene, SStatistical Process Control (SPC) is an important quality control technique, which aims to reduce variability and monitor the performance of a production process in order to improve and assure the quality of the' product. Control charting can be successfully applied for implementation of SPC in any industry. The theory on most of established control charts is based on the normal assumption and their performances are very much sensitive the departures from the normal assumption. Minitab 15 statistical software performs individual distribution identification which allows us to fit the data with 14 parametric distributions and 2 transformations. Through this distribution identification technique, in this paper, we have provided a solution to construct control charts for non normal data. As an effective application of control charts, mainly, this study focuses on constructing control charts for quality assurance in crepe rubber industry. Since the output of crepe rubber manufacturing process usually generates individual observations due to the inborn features of the production process, Individual and Moving Range chart (1- MR chart) has been used in this study.

- item: Conference-Extended-AbstractIntelligence for web content bookmarking and organization through key-phrase extraction(2014-01-16) Nilanga, GN; Adikari, SMain focus of this research is to introduce the novel concept of web content bookmarking, by using a tool called iBookmark. What is meant by 'content bookmarking' in here is, the users of iBookmark tool can easily save the textual content found interesting on web, for later reference in a meaningfully named and organized hierarchical structure. In achieving this, the tool determines a phrase which is suited to label the user selected text by using a technique called 'Key Phrase Extraction'. Those labels are used to create the hierarchy. In brief, 'how to bookmark interesting web content?' is the research question addressed throughout this paper and the novel key phrase extraction mechanism proposed is part of the solution while rest being existing technologies. Throughout this paper, that key phrase extraction technique which is using Artificial Neural Networks is elaborated and it's the major research component in the endeavour to achieve the final goal of content bookmarking. As well, manual selection of key phrases is a human cognition related activity and this tool is automating that task. Hence it's called intelligent bookmarker, iBookmark. Further, this tool is targeting specific user categories such as scholars/researchers since the idea of building such a tool was emerged when thinking how fascinating if such a tool exists to help those specific user categories.
- item: Conference-Full-textGIS Tool to mitigate urban flash floods through computing land allotment modifications and incorporating conceptual detention pit(2014-01-16) Pradeep, RMM; Wijesekera, NTSUrban flash flood is a result of storm water increase which is a usually the result of urban land allotment changes done with development projects. The present work is to identify individual data layers that affect stormwater generation, then make changes and incorporate such changes to the existing data. This tool further provides graphical representation of stormwater changes and then allows incorporation of a detention pit. The determination of pit size is dynamic and the graphical comparisons show the influence of detention. The tool allows tooptimize the pit size to compensate the storm runoff increment due to land modifications. This GIS enabled land management tool with on-screen capability was tested for user-friendliness, accuracy, efficiency and use by non-technical land managers.
- item: Conference-Extended-AbstractForecasting website accesses using data mining techniques(2014-01-16) Ranbaduge, T; Charninda, T; Napagoda, CIn the current business context, evaluation of the web page views or web pages accesses is gaining a huge recognition where it has become a vital need in planning of computer resource allocations and estimation process of upcoming revenue and advertising growth. One of the essential tasks of the hosting service provider is to allocate servers to each of the websites to maintain a certain level of quality of service for different levels of incoming requests at each point of time, and optimize the use of server resources, while maximizing its profits. In order to have a proactive management of resources within the servers it is required to build an accurate forecasting process of web accesses per unit time. As a time series, the web access patterns of the users exhibit not even different levels of short time random fluctuations but also periodic patterns that evolve randomly from one period to another. In this paper, we focus on extracting trends and web access patterns from page view or page access series using data mining techniques and their applicability on predicting the future web page accesses. Based on the time series regression techniques which are used to analyse and forecast web accesses, we found that Sequential Minimal Optimization and Linear Regression algorithms were providing more accurate results in forecasting.
- item: Conference-Extended-AbstractDevelop an efficient GIS embedded web application to manage the field data -a case study of damage assessment in lands combining maps and,GPS measurements(2014-01-16) Chandramali, EAG; Wijesekera, NTSIn the present day web applications, location based interactive requirements are increasing. WebGIS applications are moving towards applications that have many user levels incorporating data entry, verification and decision making. Coordinates of a location are the most important data for such applications. Boundary determination, decision making, area calculation, distance measurement, comparison of land parcels etc, are some of the functions that need to be done for land management and assessment process. Way points collected from Global positioning System (GPS) units should be converted to information that can be analyzed for land management. A reliable, efficient and accurate GIS embedded Web application was designed by using crop damage assessment as a case study. HTML, Javascript and PHP were used for the development. Web Component, GIS Component and Database Component are the three main components of the application. Accuracy of data were verified by using four methods. The developed damage assessment tool was designed to store and process field data related to crop damage and to visualize map information to evaluate a crop damage. Incorporation of layers include both raster and vector data. Main functions of the applications are I. Upload coordinates and relevant photographs II. Convert polygons into polygons III. Browse for maps and photographs IV. Visual and value comparison of polygons of pre and post damage extent. Higher accuracy level of locating, efficiency and accuracy of data entering through direct capture, remote access facilities, and easy to use functions are the benefits of using this application.
- item: Conference-Extended-AbstractDecision supportive system for customers and merchants with enhanced relevance(2014-01-16) Bandara, YMJK; Madhumalie, SHP; Madurasinghe, SY; Weerasinghe, MSC; Karunaratne, PMAbstract - The rrsmg development of technologies caused consumers to deal with an increasingly large amount of product and service information which is far beyond the individual's cognitive effort to process. However due to the popularity of ecommerce the number of online retailers proliferated. As a result of this, currently there are large numbers of brand names available online and this results in customer difficulty of finding the best product among alternatives. Since different customers have different perspectives and parameters about products it is better to facilitate customized information. Merchants have problems in improving their businesses due to lack of information about the customer buying pattern variations. Therefore, a system which provides accurate information and suggestions which significantly decrease users' cognitive effort which would be beneficial for both customers and merchants when selecting and providing products and services. "Decision Supportive System for Customers and Merchants with Enhanced Relevance - EpsiShoppingBot" is a mobile and web based solution which addresses above mentioned requirements of both customers and merchants.
- item: Conference-Extended-AbstractAutomated taxi dispatching system with accurate travel time prediction(2014-01-16) Kumarasinghe, S; Adikari, SFast and reliable transportation systems demonstrate the wealth of a country. Aim of this project is to develop an integrated system which is capable of addressing both identify patterns of traffic to estimate the travel time for specific route and real-rime update of current incidents on the route. Estimate the travel time for specific destination, identify the shortest time consuming path among optional paths and provide the real time update for route incidents are the main objectives of this automated system. The solution is to develop an automated taxi dispatching system without using operators to communicate with passengers and also providing the travel time to user destination. Travel time prediction with high accuracy is the major task of this system. So the key role of this approach is the predicted speed value of the identified route. This report illustrates the importance of having clear details of longitude, latitude data and other traffic related data for accurate decision making of taxi dispatching. In this prediction process mainly used artificial neural networks to train the database. Pattern recognition leads to identify patterns of traffic related data. This paper presents a novel approach which builds a travel time prediction model based on a historical traffic data and other speed varying factors. Evaluation results shown that the acceptable accuracy of travel speed prediction and how to affect speed varying factors to the error values. This concept will be fruitful for many taxi dispatching systems and fleet management as well as traffic related travel time prediction systems.
- item: Conference-Extended-AbstractAn automated medical diagnosis system based on symptom clustering approach(2014-01-16) Chathurika, HLP; Premaratne, SCMedical diagnosis is an important task that should be performed as accurately and efficiently as possible since a proper diagnosis may lead to increase the quality of life of the people. Educating patients about the symptoms will improve the chances of obtaining the right diagnosis and obtaining prompt and correct treatment. In many automated diagnosis systems, the results are influenced always by the bias of the researchers' initial assumptions. What is needed instead is an approach that minimizes human bias and considers all relevant data in determining a diagnosis. This paper reveals the design and implementation of IMedicare, a system that discover the most suitable and accurate diagnosis by extracting information on diseases. A proper clustering mechanism is being used to categorize diseases into groups according to the symptoms revealed. This system is proposed to accommodate several features such as predicting the most probable diseases through the symptoms, providing better communication among the doctors and the patients concealing the privacy and etc. Key areas of diagnosis are identified during the development process of the system in order to provide a better experience to the users through this approach. Analysis were done after consulting several medical doctors and based on their feedbacks. The proposed system was implemented using a dataset extracted from several doctors and the details from the web. Then the data set was segmented using a clustering approach and the system was evaluated using extensive datasets.
- item: Conference-Extended-AbstractA technical framework for community geographic information systems in low end smart phones(2014-01-16) Fernando, M; Perera, A; Kannangara, D; Jayaweera, D; Gunathilake, R; Kulawansa, KADT; Jayathilake, DPopularity of social networks and ubiquitous use of hand held devices such as smart phones have brought the usage of GIS into the next level. With the Geo-Iocation detection capabilities of hand held devices, users can share their current location and paths traversed along with useful metadata. Community GIS is generated at this level where users can contribute to map data make use of existing geo location information which others have already added. This has changed one of the other aspects of GIS which is known as Traditional GIS, where users have to pay and consume data available on maps developed by expert organizations. In order to use and contribute to community GIS a user needs a smart phone with features such as location detection, camera and a good display along with an application tailor made for the purpose. A prominent problem is that a vast majority of existing applications assume a high-end smartphone with sophisticated hardware. On the other hand, most users from developing countries, who represent the bigger fraction of the smartphone user base, still work with low-end smartphones that employ low cost alternative hardware and software. This paper comprehends an attempt to devise an application model for low-end smart phones so that community GIS capabilities are disseminated to users with less purchasing power. First, a survey is carried out to collect data regarding the smartphone platforms that will potentially dominate the low-end market. A client-server application model is designed targeting the identified platforms. We demonstrate a proof-of concept application for the model.
