Abstract
A direct technique to obtain information about the structure of a filter cake is described. Cakes formed from two different materials are consolidated and the porosity and pore size distribution in polished sections of these cakes are measured directly by using an image analyser. Two methods of impregnating filter cakes have been developed and are discussed in the paper. They are also suitable for consolidation of cakes formed from sub-sieve size material (<38μm).
