- item: Conference-Full-textExploiting bulk agent approach for conflict resolution in multi agent systemsB(2015-06-09) Gunathilaka, PM; Karunananda, AConflicts are inevitable when autonomous agents operating in Single Multi Agent System to achieve their own goals. Therefore various conflict resolution techniques were presented in the literature. Argumentation Based Negotiation (ABN) has been considered as one of the best approach so far. Evading and re- planning are also two different cost effective options which should be considered as the first option in resolving conflicts. On the other hand, nature can be considered as a one big natural multi agent environment, where all elementary agents interact with no visible conflicts. Cosmological studies and theories have been used to explain most of the natural phenomena that we scientifically experienced. How brane particles interacts each other in a universal extra dimension (bulk) and share the same governing rules such as gravity is the main inspiration for our research. We postulate that the conflicts can be avoided or resolved with minimal computational time and resources by introducing bulk agents which represent extra dimensions of a multi agent system.
- item: Conference-AbstractGenerating lane level road data from vehicle trajectories using Kernel Density Estimation(2014-06-23) Uduwaragoda, ERIACM; Perera, AS; Dias, SADAn informative digital map is a prerequisite for future Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications such as lane level navigation systems. Preparing and updating such detailed digital maps by using existing methods such as surveying and image digitization is not practical due to the time and cost involved. We propose a method that statistically mines Global Positioning System (GPS) trajectory data obtained from vehicles to generate a lane level digital map of the road. The proposed method is capable of generating a digital map of the road which contains lane centerlines. The proposed method is independent of the lane width, lane parallelism and can handle lane splits and merges. In addition, a method that can be used to generate a map of lane boundaries is also presented. The proposed methods have been tested using the GPS data collected using vehicles equipped with GPS enabled mobile phones. Results show that the proposed method for lane centerline generation is successful in different road geometries.
- item: Conference-Full-textMobile and desktop based group messaging system(2015-06-09) Adikari, AAAS; Ailapperuma, DCR; Dilhani, PAC; Umasuthan, K; Hashamth, MLM; Kulawansa, KADT; Fernando, SACommunication is an essential factor in any activity and in any community. Sharing and transferring information in a group Is needed in many Instances addressing both personal and corporate usage. Many studies and applications have attempted to overcome this barrier with the usage of mobile communication which is a fast growing medium at present. Our solution Is to have an integrated communication system using both mobile and desktop applications with security. The Android mobile application and desktop application connects to the Open Fire server of the organization and via the server groups can communicate simultaneously. A SMS gateway is connected to the server to notify the message to offline users. Encrypting mechanism Implemented In this application ensures the safety of the data transmitted In the network. A survey was conducted among corporate and also among general public to identify their needs and Issues in communication. From the survey It was highlighted that a secure group messaging system within the company is essential and employees are reluctant to use their own mobiles and prefer a company group communication system. Further this application was tested In real time corporate environment and was proven very user friendly and useful. This research paper describes the importance and necessity of such communication system for efficient and safe sharing of information between groups of people and provides a solution addressing Integrated communication to overcome the existing barriers of communication.
- item: Conference-Full-textA Novel approach for personalized article recommendation in online scientific communities(2015-06-09) Sun, J; Ma, J; Liu, X; Liu, Z; Wang, G; Jiang, H; Silva, ATPRapid proliferation of information technologies has generated sheer volume of information which makes scientific research related information searching more challenging. Personalized recommendation is the widely adopted technique to recommend relevant documents to researchers. Current methods are suffering from mismatch problem and match irrelevance problem and fail to generate highly related results. To overcome these problems, we propose a novel approach to recommend articles to the researchers. In our approach we integrate three types of similarity measures: keyword similarity, journal similarity, and author similarity to measure the relevance of the articles to researchers. The keyword similarity is used to generate candidate list of articles, and the journal similarity and author similarity are used to select most suitable articles from the candidate list. The integrated similarity measure is used to rank the articles based on their relevance. The proposed method is implemented in Scholar Mate (www.scholarmate.com), the online research social network platform. The evaluation results exhibit that proposed method is more effective than existing ones.
