- item: Conference-Full-textIdentifying the operational process of a ro-ro terminal using system dynamics modelling(Sri Lanka Society of Transport and Logistics, 2022-08) Manatunga, A; Weerasinghe, BA; Perera, N; Kiessner, P; Perera, N; Thibbotuwawa, AThe growth of Roll on Roll off (Ro-Ro) shipping operations have become significant in global maritime operations with the continued growth of the global automobile distribution. To optimize Ro-Ro terminal operations, it is required to identify the major processes that takes place within a Ro-Ro terminal. This study identifies the major operational flows within the Ro-Ro terminal using Systems Dynamics (SD) modelling. Five causal loops are identified and discussed in the study which are tested under the actual operations of a well-reputed Ro-Ro terminal. First loop refers to basic assignment between berths and storage yards, while loops 2 and 3 describe variables in discharging and loading vehicles consecutively. Loop 4 describes the procedure of allocating drivers to loading and discharging processes while loop 5 focuses on its impact towards loading and discharging times of vehicles. This study demonstrates the major actors that impact the rate of transferring an incoming set of vehicles to a yard location in the Ro-Ro terminal. Location and layout of the yard and berthing areas, operational restrictions within the Ro-Ro terminal, terminal specific operational procedures and impact of the human factors have been identified.
- item: Conference-Full-textMaritime logistics research in South Asia: a systematic review(Sri Lanka Society of Transport and Logistics, 2021-10) Weerasinghe, BA; Perera, HN; Gunaruwan, TLSystematic reviews are trending because they inform future studies by providing a snapshot of the existent research within the relevant field. We found a dearth of systematic reviews and bibliometric analysis in maritime logistics. This study discusses the contributions of authors based in South Asia to research in maritime logistics. Moreover, maritime logistics research in this geographic region needs to be examined in the context of South Asia’s emergence as a geopolitical and maritime hub. This review reveals that an overwhelming majority of research on maritime logistics in South Asia originates from India. This review identifies five research clusters on examining networks between authors and countries. These were derived based on author keywords found in the pool of research using systematically derived through Scopus. We find that, among the South Asian research on maritime logistics, research focusing on the Indo-Pacific receives particular attention. There is also a rapidly growing focus on sustainability in shipping and in optimising container terminals.
- item: Conference-Full-textThe transparency in apparel supply chains: a systematic review(Sri Lanka Society of Transport and Logistics, 2023-08-26) Madumali, S; Weerasinghe, BA; Thibbotuwawa, A; Perera, HN; Gunaruwan, TLThe emergence of complexity, volatility, and competitiveness has made the apparel industry thrive towards a fast-growing global market. As a result, transparency in the supply chain has become one of the most prominent demands of consumers nowadays. However, the available review studies have not predominantly focused on the transparency aspect in a broader perspective within the apparel supply chain. Consequently, a significant research gap was identified in systematic reviews focused on transparency in apparel supply chain research. In this concern, this study is conducted by bridging the studies coming out from the transparency in the apparel supply chain introducing four research clusters that were systematically derived through Scopus based on author keywords of the paper pool. In addition, the evolution of transparency in the apparel supply chain is critically analyzed based on the derived four clusters. Moreover, based on the findings and identified research gaps through literature, the review proposes future research directions in the scope of transparency in the apparel supply chain for the growth of the field.
