- item: Conference-Full-textDesign and simulation of a human-like robot neck mechanism(Electrical Engineering Society (EESoc) of Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, 2015-12) Edirisinghe, EANS; Lakmal, RAP; Lakshitha, TGG; Sirimanna, SWDTS; Jayasekara, AGBP; Jayasekara, AGBPA vast range of human-friendly interactive robotic heads is being developed by researchers. However these robot heads require improvements in construction and behavior to achieve more human-like performance. Therefore this paper proposes a design of a robotic head with human-like movements. The details of the kinematic analysis, particulars on mechanical design of the neck, the electrical and control system of the robotic neck are discussed. The design parameters have been identified by analyzing the bio-mechanical information related to basic head movements of the humans. This paper includes a way to imitate human neck movements of flexion and lateral flexion. Design of this robotic neck platform is done in such a way that it can be used as a platform for facilitating further developments in integrating more additive features to a robotic neck, which are to be incorporated as per needed by any developer.

- item: Conference-Full-textDesign of a human-like robot head with emotions(IEEE, 2016-04) Edirisinghe, EANS; Lakmal, RAP; Lakshitha, TGG; Sirimanna, SWDTS; Jayasekara, AGBP; Jayasekara, AGBP; Bandara, HMND; Amarasinghe, YWRService robots are used in a vast range of service applications. Domestic service robots have the requirement of a human-like appearance and inevitably a human-like interactive behaviors. In this paper, a human-like robot head mechanism is proposed while including the features of eye mechanism, neck mechanism in addition to its human-like appearance. This design is done identifying the average human eye and neck in each movement for more human-like interaction. In addition, the implementation of human emotions using a combination of eye and neck movements is also discussed in this paper. Basic human emotions as a response to an input given to the robot head are also analyzed.
