- item: Article-Full-textAn approach to measure the pedagogy in slides with voice-over type instructional videos(Academic Publishing, 2022) Suriyawansa, K; Kodagoda, N; Ranathunga, L; Abdullah, NAE-learning provides a more suitable learning environment for educators and learners. Hence, the e-learning community has rapidly increased over the years. At present, e-learning environments use several materials to transfer knowledge to learners. Out of various types of materials, instructional videos have become the prominent source of information in popular e-learning environments. Instructional videos in e-learning can be categorised into many types based on the content presentation method. Voice-over slides are popular instructional videos at present. Since the instructional materials are a key component of an e-learning environment, maintaining the required quality of these materials is vital. Using proper pedagogy in instructional materials mainly enhances the quality. There are many pedagogical principles proposed over the years, and these principles address different features of all instructional materials. Therefore, it is necessary to derive the applicable pedagogical principles based on the features available in the instructional video to analyse the pedagogy in an instructional video. The investigation related to this paper aims to derive an approach to analysing and quantifying the pedagogy in slides with voice-over type instructional videos. In this study, a thorough literature review first identified the pedagogical principles applicable to slides with voice-over type instructional videos. Next, the prominence of the identified pedagogical principles was derived from a Likert-scale survey conducted by several Information Technology undergraduates. The survey response assigned a rank to each identified pedagogical principle. The rank was derived by the mean score obtained for each pedagogical principle. Next, one-way ANOVA tests were performed for the mean score of pedagogical principles to derive their prominence levels. The ANOVA tests were conducted by adding adjacent pedagogical principles with a non-identical rank until the ANOVA results claimed a significant difference in variances. A new level was defined when the ANOVA results showed a significant difference. This study proposed a pedagogical score calculation formula using these levels (derived from the statistical analysis) to derive a qualitative measure of the use of pedagogy in slides with voice-over type instructional videos. The pedagogical evaluators and content developers can use the proposed scoring method to quantify and compare the pedagogy in slides with voice-over instructional videos.
- item: Conference-Full-textDigital platform to empower the self-employment in Sri Lanka(Faculty of Information Technology, University of Moratuwa., 2021-12) Wickramasinghe, HCP; Thebuwana, TD; Wijesinghe, GKHS; Dissanayake, UN; Kodagoda, N; Suriyawansa, K; Ganegoda, GU; Mahadewa, KTUnemployment is a huge problem around the world because a lack of job opportunities. People are unable to find the job opportunities according to their preferences and qualifications. As a solution for this, many countries are attempting to empower self-employment. Most of current world problems have been solved using modern technologies. Therefore, the development of self-employment also can be achieved through modern technology. The objective of our proposed platform, HIRELANCER, is empowering self-employment using modern technologies. HIRELANCER is bringing the consumers, service providers, and suppliers into the same platform. HIRELANCER will consist of innovative features that go beyond comparatively to other platforms such as an advanced mechanism to find best suitable service providers/suppliers for the service, handling the virtual front-desk, cost estimation for the services prior to contacting a service provider, and advanced facility to find a suitable career path for the people who are seeking career guidance. This research paper discusses how the innovative features of HIRELANCER will be beneficial for consumers, service providers, and suppliers and ultimately achieve our main objective, which is empowering self-employment in Sri Lanka.
- item: Conference-AbstractEduzone – a educational video summarizer and digital human assistant for effective learning(Information Technology Research Unit, Faculty of Information Technology, University of Moratuwa., 2022-12) Wangchen, T; Tharindi, PN; Chaveena De Silva, KCC; Sandeepa, WD; Kodagoda, N; Suriyawansa, K; Sumathipala, KASN; Ganegoda, GU; Piyathilake, ITS; Manawadu, INThe availability of technology and the expansive nature of the internet have created a surge in the demand for online learning. Despite so many advantages, there are some existing drawbacks related to online learning. The lengthy recorded video lectures of different subjects and modules in a static manner, are extremely tedious for the learner to understand the contents available. And lack of assistance for academic-related problems of students is also stated as a major issue that comes with online education. EDUZONE provides a reliable solution to mitigate and overcome these challenges. This tool is educational assistance that generates a summarized version of the video lectures which depicts the overall idea of the whole video with the capability of a lecture notes generator along with a digital human which helps to clarify students’ problems and build an efficient conversational flow. The summarized video content can be used by the learners for revisions and as a quick reference before any examinations. In addition to generating short and precise content, EDUZONE also indexes any specific topics to make it easier to find content and generate class notes, highlighting all the important content. Overall EDUZONE can be considered a time-efficient educational assistant which helps students with their studies.
- item: Conference-Full-textThuryalankara: artificial intelligence based audio plugin for Sri Lankan percussion instruments(Faculty of Information Technology, University of Moratuwa., 2021-12) Fernando, PDC; Fernando, BAN; Wanaguru, IU; Perera, MAPA; Buddhika, T; Kodagoda, N; Ganegoda, D; Ganegoda, GU; Mahadewa, KTSri Lankan music is yet to prove its musical prowess by incorporating artificial intelligence tools, therefore, this research introduces a novel invention, an automated audio plugin for music producers, so the process of creating, mixing, mastering, and producing music is easier. To achieve this, the research introduces a Variational AutoEncoder (VAE) machine learning model to create and generate music, an artificial intelligence (AI) system that can automate the mastering process. This research also introduces an innovative component, a virtual instrumentation tool using MIDI technology for the Sri Lankan percussion instruments that allow users to play the instrument virtually using a MIDI keyboard, and alongside it, a preset beat generator that automatically maintain tempo consistency. Thuryalankara was able to receive a collective average of 80% accuracy rate exceeding the predicted accuracy rate of 65% from the software benchmarking test and the physical survey conducted with music producers. Finally, with the inclusion of powerful tools like this, the ultimate objective of this research is to take the Sri Lankan instruments to the international level where any producer from little to plenty experience is able to use this plugin to enhance their musical production.
